Hello!! Amazingly we've finally got around to updating our news page and it isn't Autumn 2006 anymore, hurrah!
So what's been going on in Warmfuzz-land?. Well plenty!, despite all appearances of website activity to the contrary.
Matt Backer, has been busy conquering American radio. To date he has had 3 no.1 records on New Music Weekly's A/C chart!
In November 2007 he won the NMW 'Best New A/C indie artist' gong which he collected at their awards ceremony in Los Angeles. In 2008 he was nominated for 4 further awards and performed live at the awards ceremony.
Amazingly with all this going on, he still found time to tour in the USA last summer, playing live wiith ABC and Belinda Carlisle and to record an as yet unreleased, new album, to follow up 'The Impulse Man' You can find out more about Matt at: www.mattbacker.com or www.myspace.com/mattbacker and watch the video for 'The Man Who Stole My Life' from the award winning 'Impulse Man' album:
At the time of writing, the fifth single from 'The Impulse Man' has entered seven different US radio charts. 'Oh No Don't Cry' (which features backing vocals from Nick Heyward and Ian Shaw) is still climbing (at number 2 in the Indie Top 30 chart) at present.
Matt has, in addition to appearing on Mari Wilson's latest radio-tastic album 'Emotional Glamour' and performing live with her, performed on the UK version of the hit TV show 'Don't Forget The Lyrics'. Not as a contestant, of course, but as singer and guitarist in the house band. They've just wrapped the third series.
Future releases (aside from his legendary next album) include contributions to Julian Lennon's forthcoming album and tracks by an exciting new hip-hop rock folk opera world artist called Noah Francis. Check both of their websites and MySpace pages.
ABC will be performing at the London's Royal Albert Hall on April 8th with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anne Dudley (with a special guest appearance from Trevor Horn). In addition to a first set with a smattering of hits and some stuff from the staggeringly good new album 'Traffic' (which features Matt throughout), they will be playing the entire 'Lexicon Of Love' from start to finish in the second half. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!
Kelly's Heels are back in the studio recording the follow up to 2007's 'Neither use or Ornament' which contrary to rumours is not going to be called 'Rubber Heels'.
The new album features the most musicians ever to appear on a Kelly's Heels/Ashes album.....all 4 of them! Bob is joined as ever by thundering Jim Kimberley on drums, Isobel Morris on backing vocals and a special guest appearance by Steve Rinaldi on trombone.
In addition to his album, Bob has been helping out playing live with the brilliant 'Bruise' and 'Rinaldi Sings' and playing guitar with ex 'TV Personality and Times' supremo Edward Ball. Also in 2008 'Dig In' was voted one of the top 200 powerpop albums by Shake Some Action Revisited.
More New Music
Virginia are still idling along in a low gear. Recently the girls finished 4 tracks from their 'lost' second album, one of which, 'Loving Lovely Layla' is available here as a free download if you sign up for our newsletter, or already have. There are some new songs scheduled to be recorded too, so who knows, maybe there'll be a new Virginia album before the end of 2009.
Meanwhile Alison can be seen touring with a stripped down version of The Beautiful South this year and Laura is playing regular solo gigs in West London: myspace.com/virginiagirlband.
The Trouble Dolls, New York's finest are still putting the finishing touches to their 2nd album and were in the studio in January recording some new songs: www.myspace.com/troubledolls.
So what's new?...check out some new downloads by our artists and a couple of new artists we really like. Recently we've been loving Blabbermouth, Vin Goodwin, Gemma Garmeson and Nikki Murray, all of whom Warmfuzz supremo Ian Shaw made records with in 2008. Also check out 'Bruise' who are a very fine band and Fiona Bevan, both acts have been making a splash on the London gig circuit over the last year.
Come back again soon and see what's new at Warmfuzz!
